Telehealth therapy offers the same depth and presence as in-person work — with the added comfort of being in your own space. Here's what a virtual session actually looks like, from first click to lasting insight.

If you've never done therapy over video, it's natural to wonder whether it can really work. Can a screen hold something as personal as your inner life? In my experience — and in a growing body of research — the answer is yes. Virtual therapy is not a lesser version of "real" therapy. For many people, it's the format that finally makes consistent, meaningful work possible.

Before your first session

Everything begins with a free 15-minute consultation by phone, so we can get a feel for each other before committing to anything. If we decide to move forward, you'll receive a secure link and a few simple intake forms. There's nothing to download beyond a browser, and no special equipment — a phone, tablet, or laptop is enough.

Setting up your space

One of the quiet advantages of virtual therapy is that you choose your own environment. The main thing is privacy: a room where you can speak freely without being overheard. Some people sit at a desk, others curl up on the couch with tea. A few find a parked car or a walk-friendly headset works best when home isn't private. Whatever helps you feel safe enough to be honest is the right setup.

No commute, no waiting room — just meaningful therapeutic work, from wherever you feel most yourself.

What the session itself is like

Once we're connected, a virtual session unfolds much like an in-person one. We talk. I listen closely — to your words, your tone, the things that go unsaid. The therapeutic relationship still forms, the insights still land, and the work still deepens over time. Many clients tell me they actually feel more at ease opening up from the comfort of home.

Who virtual therapy is for

Telehealth removes a lot of the practical barriers that keep people from starting therapy — long commutes, packed schedules, limited local options, mobility or health concerns, or simply the dread of a waiting room. Because I'm licensed in Massachusetts, I can work with anyone residing anywhere in the state, whether you're in Boston, the Berkshires, or a small town in between.

The format is flexible, but the care is the same: thoughtful, relational, depth-oriented therapy designed around your life. If you've been curious but unsure, a free consultation is the easiest way to see how it feels.
